New color-shifting ink can turn a variety of colours. They use diffraction from silicon dioxide spheres and are iridescent.

My reading of it was that it was more like a cross between butterfly wings and thin-film transistors....

when I first saw this I was thinking of those hypercolour tshirts that were slightly terndy in the late '80's that changed colour with body heat (or made it obvious you were sweating like a pig).

Anyway, take a look at www.plasticlogic.com who are doing roughly the same thing with regards to moving newspaper pictures / displays.
