Giambit story provides pleasant surprise
I was reading a commentary by Mike Celizic on the MSNBC web site regarding the Jason Giambi steroid controversy. His slant on the story was that the public likes being lied to. I was nodding my head in agreement when I came to the part that really resonated with me. He stated "Something like half the country refuses to hear that evolution is a fact and that the biblical story of creation -- whatever of the two versions in Genesis you want to believe -- is a nice story, but nothing more.''
I wasn't expecting to see something like that in a sports story from a nationaly syndicated columnist, and I wasn't expecting it right now, with what I perceived was a progression of far-right creationist theory into daily affairs. It made my day. |

Sports writers have a long standing reputation as hard-boiled cynics. After Schilling(?) won one of the world series games, apparently he was thanking Jesus in the locker room afterwards. I read a blurb that said that the sportwriters were mock gagging in response.
