Looking for an acupuncture cite

On a television program, and I think in the pages of the Skeptical Inquirer, I saw a reference to the notion that Chinese acupuncturists, before surgery, gave the patients "a little something" to relax them first.

Can anybody point me in the right direction to find this citation?

Are you talking about combining acupuncture with anesthesia and/or sedatives? Because that's fairly common.

Or are you talking about some kind of acupuncture-only surgery in which the acupuncturist slipped the subject a sedative, but under the table, as it were?

The following journal which deals with traditional Chinese medicine may have some studies for you on Acupuncture. Start w/checking he current table of contents and then use its search page to find more:

A neighbor once found Nasrudin searching for something on the street outside his house.
"What have you lost, Mulla?" he asked.
"My key," said Nasrudin.
So they both went down on their hands and knees and looked for it.
After a time the other man asked: "Where exactly did you drop it?"
"In my house."
"Then why, for Heaven's sake, are you looking out here?"
"There is more light here."
