Woo Predicted Tsunami...

...well, not really.

from here

"Business idea blogger, Dan Sherman, used his blog to predict a major seismic event 4 months before the southeast Asian tsunami. Reading his words now, in light of what has happened, is eerie."

"But how does Sherman explain his ability to predict seismic activity?

"It's a sensation I feel in my ears. While the sensation is happening, my hearing in that particular ear is affected until it subsides. The stronger or louder the sensation, the stronger the seismic activity seems to be once it occurs.""

Man, that guy is dead on! He'd be even more impressive if the earthquake had happened in oh say....... SEPTEMBER!

Quote:
The blog entry he's talking about (http://www.dansherman.com/2004/09/im...literally.html) is titled, "I'm Predicting an Earthquake - Literally!" In it, he writes this ominous statement, "I just hope the intensity of the [seismic event doesn't directly correlate with the intensity of the physical manifestation I've been experiencing. If it does, it will be absolutely devastating. Let's hope I'm wrong."

Two days after that ominous post, there were two back-to-back earthquakes in Japan. They occurred 5 hours apart and were 6.8 and 7.3 in magnitude, respectively.
What is the frequency of magnitude 7 earthquakes on the earth? Oh, 17 earthquakes... so if I predict that a magnitude 7 or above earthquake will be happening "real soon" and by "real soon" I mean a month.... I'll almost always be correct. Brilliant!

Quote:
Sherman reported this in his blog (http://www.dansherman.com/2004/09/ea...n-correct.html). However, because the sensation he experienced wasn't like his normal sensations prior to seismic activity, he wrote this in that follow-up blog post, "But, for some reason, because of the intensity of the 'thing' that happens to me before earthquakes, I don't think those two earthquakes are going to be the end of it. I believe we have some more coming up in the next 24 hours or so.
24 hours.... 2 months... it's all relative in the spirit world. WOO WOO

Usually after a major quake there are after shocks a day or two afterwards anyway! So no big revelation from him there.

It would make a nice change for those gifted clairvoyanys to predict something BEFORE it happed for a change. They all seem pretty good at predicting was HAS happened. Odd that.

Tsunami

I can't see the point of predicting earthquakes, myself. If the locals insist on ignoring the scientists who study them, what chance have the psychics got?

Unfortunately they may very well have a better possibility to get through to people, especially to people who ignore science.

Sadly I have to agree with deBergerac. But Songstress, don't you think before considering the appliace of these miraculous abilities we should make sure these abilites go beyond the ancient art of shoehorning ?

edited because of a minuscule spelling mistake
