The Expanding Cube

I don't remember seeing anyone perform this. How could it go out of fashion?
Quote:
And from Will Goldston's wife, Leah, he bought the original equipment for Buatier de Kolta's final creation, "The Expanding Cube" ... The effect of the cube trick was staggering: a die, eight inches square, expanded instantly to become a cube, three-feet square, which was then lifted to reveal a girl beneath it. Houdini presented this illusion in the last showing of his magic revue at the Empire Theatre in Nottingham.

--- Milbourne Christopher, Houdini, the untold story.
Is there anyone anywhere who still knows how to do this, and does it?

Expanding Die

I have a variation of it in my newest book "PVC Pipe & Dollar Store Illusions for the REALLY, REALLY Cheap Illusionist!" It is featured in the article "Die-A-Bolical" in Book 2. Die-A-Bolical is the variation, but a new way of expanding the die is also included that does away the need for mechanical parts and fancy drawing room furniture.

The Magic Nook

I have used it with my performing group "The Wiz Kids" on a number of occasions, but it is really designed for the "elegant" Illusionist and doesn't fit our style.
