I know that in the movies and on tv there are sounds accompanied by blinking lights and also not accompainied by them like on Star Trek The origonal series they had a lot of noises and some blinking lights I guess also to show that the computers and the control panels were doing something.

I think this was mentioned in the lights thread, but I have to take issue with the beeps and boops which accompany typing and printing in the movies. If my computer made a noise every time it printed a character on screen, I'd be ripping off the cover and searching for that speaker before the computer booted up.

It's interesting that computer games, despite being on actual computers, have beeps and boops and blinking lights galore, and most people don't seem to mind.
