Hi

I really suck at self intro so I thought this might be one way to provide a little insight into what I'm like.

If you are into Astrology...I'm Scorpio
If you are into numerology....My life path is #7
If you are into Tarot.....my court card is The Queen of Cups
If you are into I ching.....I am both male and female...or maybe I have that confused with the Jungian anima-animus stuff *shrug*
Kabalarian Philosophy says I might suffer from constipation....do you suppose that's just their way of saying I'm anal ?
The Enneagram puts me in the Head Center as a #5 with a stress point of #7 and a security point of #8 but now that I think about it, the Kabalarians must be crazy cause when it's time for #2....I don't hold nothin' back .. know what I mean *grin*

I have not developed a preference for any single school of thought as of yet and doubt that I will because I enjoy a little of everything I suppose you might say. Other than that, I'm just me.

I heard similar things about your halloween costume from last year. Although, unfortunately, they already took down the pictures by the time I got around to reading the thread

Anyway ...

Hi
I have been lukring on here for some time (I think the first thread that I read was the Hoax chess thread)
I think the best discription of me is harmless. I am curently trying to survive a chemisty degree so if I go insane it is probably due to some of the thing I keep breathing in.
I am aware that I have problems with spelling and I hope that this will not cause you too many problems.

Hi Genie! Don't be breathing that stuff in. That was *supposed* to be one of the first things they taught you
But don't worry. My chemistry geek friends - of all different ages - are only slightly brain addled so there's hope for you too
(And I suspect that's from all the post exam fluids labs)

Yes, you´re exactly right here. For the really violent...oops, no, I meant "lively"...discussions turn to the P,CE & H forum - just make sure you wear your bullet-proof vest before entering, as some posters there fire live ammunition.

Greetings and Salutations,

Hi all, I've lurked here at JREF for about 2 years now, decided to finally start posting. If you cannot tell by my name, I am not a fundamentalist. I generally tend to think of religion as harmful, it seems for the most part to be a crutch so you don't have to think too hard, and I take issue with not thinking. Anyway Don't wanna go to far into beliefs, gotta save some ammo for the other threads. A little more about me I am 27, Did my four years in the army, now attending college full-time to get a Bachelors degree in business administration. I am happily married and have a 3 year old son. I look forward to posting.

Hi folks!

I just found this forum a few days ago, via a link to one of the commentaries that was posted on DU (Democratic Underground) -- we've got a few skeptics over there, but they seem to have given up the battle, so to speak, with the astrologer community. (Not that any of that stuff is the main focus of DU anyway...but I digress...)

I'm a grad student working on my PhD in anthropology (specializing in paleoanthropology). I tend to post very little and lurk/read more -- I usually don't have much time to spend on boards and don't like to give the impression that I've abandoned a discussion.

This looks like a good forum so far...I look forward to getting involved in some discussions!

A warm welcome to you, Piltdown!
As soon as I saw that name I thought "Dawson!"
Good to have a paleoanthropologist on the forum. Now I can ask you all those awkward questions about which fossil belongs where.............hope you have your "pig-proof helmet".

(actually you're probably too young for that joke......)

Thanks!

I love those awkward questions -- although there's so little evidence for some of them that we tend to just go round in circles :-). Not sure I get the "pig-proof helmet" reference -- unless it has something to do with Raymond Dart's osteodontokeratic theory (there's some great footage of him doing a fake "hominid attack" with a hemimandible...lol).

Well, hello, Flame! You've already made a splash here on the forums, I think.

I would like to thank your husband, Graham, for introducing you to our forum. And, thanks for introducing yourself so quickly to us here.

I am looking forward to seeing even more of your posts!

Welcome to the forum, Piltdown13. Please continue to lurk/read, if you like. But, don't feel that you've abandoned discussions just because you can't keep commenting. Hit and run posting is okay if no one is directly talking to you or commenting on your posts. Besides, you never know what kind of maelstrom your posts can create unless you start posting!

Thanks for taking the time to decloaking yourself and letting us know that you are here!

Well P13, it was a while ago.
As I recall, Richard Leakey was claiming considerable antiquity for a particular skull (I think it was 1470) but others disagreed. It all depended on which stratum the fossil was found in relation to some pig teeth. A meeting was held on site and one guy turned up in what he claimed was a "pig-proof" helmet. It was all about 25 years ago.
I have to say my interest is purely amateur and was sparked by a friend of my fathers, Michael Day, professor of anatomy at St Thomas's hospital in London. A very nice bloke!
Anyway, enjoy yourself on the forum!

An introduction......

Glad to be here among fellow skeptics. I found this place many months ago & have been reading Randi's commentary ever since.

I haven't posted here before, mainly because I've been hanging out at IIDB. I have a lot of free time at work, so I found the discussions there very educational, and at least gave me something to do during the day.

Well, today I tried to log on and obviously the "chat room" demon had tracked me down. No longer did I have access to the fora.

So, I tried y'all. Grace be to Zeus, you guys are still under the radar. So now I'll be hanging out here - until they catch me again.

I'm what most would call a weak atheist. Married, childfree, mainly involved with my dogs, my homestead (4+ acres in the high desert mountains of CA), and whatever toys we decide to play with at the time.

I have been lurking around today and have noticed quite a few familiar faces from IIDB.

Thanks for a new place to hang out!

Unfortunately this is the only place I post and just started using the handle, so haven't got to piss alot of people off yet. In RL I am not so blunt...yet Thinking about getting more confrontational.

It's a technical definition.

A weak atheist is a person who lacks a belief in the existence of any god, and who does not embrace a belief in the nonexistence of gods.

There's nothing intrinsically *weak* in weak atheism, that's just what it's called. Weak atheists don't lack nerve, either. Many weak atheists are non-cognitivists, i.e. people who assert that the notion of god is too nonsensical to be the topic of a belief for or against it.

For or against? Just not believing in gods doesn't mean being against them for others. I'm against what some do in a god's name, but I don't care what people worship. I guess that makes me a weak atheist too. I never assumed atheists were 'against' gods, I just thought atheist meant not beleiving in the one christian god.

Atheists are doing the work of Satan. Ask any fundy.

Strong atheists, for the most part, do promote a "there is no god" attitude. I just don't see any evidence one way or the other. And that goes for all gods, not just the xtian one.

Thanks Drmatt for your wonderfully eloquent definition.

Not just the christian god, all gods.

And there's also a difference between believing god does not exist, and not believing in god (apparently).

It's semantics, but one is believing god doesn't exist as much as christians believe god does exist, while the other is simply thinking god has no relevance, existing or not. There was a discussion about that a while back, and the conclusion was that one is atheism, the other is agnosticism, if I remember correctly?

Rest assured, all their remedies are exactly what they say they are. There are also ways of testing the remedies too, so that you could distinguish them from just pure tap water.
QAman: How can this be done? I presume you mean testing of the lower dilution remedies?
Naturalhealth: No. This can be done for all remedies.

Pardon me, but I must ask: You've actually seen an strong/weak atheist/agnostic semantics discussion that had a conclusion??

I've only seen ones where everyone agrees that eveyone else is missing the point.

It's not that everyone is "missing the point", I've seen discussions where everyone agrees to the different distinctions.

Introducing... me!

Well, it appears that this forum has not yet reached its quota of lawyers from Charlton Heights, West Virginia, so I figured I'd better join in. Also, you seem to be short of adverbs.

As you may already have suspected, Suddenly and I are an item. We've done it all up legal-like and everything. We celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversery last March.

I have (mostly) enjoyed reading the posts and can't wait to enter the fray!

Awesome! So, what topics are best for a fray

I have some questions for a lawyer if you don't mind. About failed tubals.

Just confirming that the above person claiming to be my wife is in fact who she says she is. I'm sure she will be a much better poster than me, 'cause she types way faster than I can ....

Suddenly, Eventually...

Anyone thinking what I'm thinking...
Uhoh, I'm gonna get thwacked on the head again!

Yes, my daughter is cute and sweet, but now none of my kids will be able to go to college cause my bank account is in the negative every month cause childcare for 3 kids takes $1200.00 dollars a month from my $1500.00 a month take home pay. My bills can't be paid with $300.00/mos. And yes, I got $300.00 a month childcare subsidy so that I could keep that measly 300 dollars from my paycheque (which is actually high for what subsidy is available in this province).

If I stay home then I won't even get the $300.00 and we've seen what that's like already ***shudders***.

Okay, I'll stop hijacking with my whining now!
