Psychic and Cop busted for scam.

I heard about this on Paul Harvey, today. My only thought was, "Wow. A psychic scamming people! WHO KNEW?!?!"

Quote:
FORT PIERCE - (AP) -- A Delray Beach police officer and a psychic were arrested Wednesday on federal fraud, money-laundering and other charges stemming from an alleged scam in which elderly and seriously ill people were told they could be cured.

Police Detective Jack M. Makler, 64, and self-proclaimed psychic Linda Marks, 57, are charged in the 17-page indictment with bilking numerous victims out of more than $1 million between 1994 and 2002. They made initial court appearances Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Fort Pierce. It was not clear if they had hired lawyers.

According to the indictment, Marks falsely claimed she could cure the elderly and ill by praying over their money. Makler was assigned to investigate some of the cases, but instead helped Marks in the fraud and money laundering, and also lied on three separate occasions to federal investigators when questioned, U.S. Attorney R. Alexander Acosta said.
Next time Randi wonders if it's worth it, he ought to read this.

I like the bit about Marks being a "self-proclaimed psychic." Who else proclaims psychics, other than themselves?
