Hey, first time posting here!

I've been reading Randi's site for a year now. I've also become an aethiest overtime and a extreme skeptic. So...good I found a board that matches my thoughts. Anyway for my first post I'd like share a message I just posted on the Penn And Teller Bullsh!t board. It's a funny read.

Alright I just started watching this show and I love it. I'm a skeptic and a full blown athiest. I don't believe in ghost. I don't believe in a God, and I don't believe in life after death. I also think most people are liars haha. Anyway I just moved, and my GF has been thinking my house is haunted. She comes from a catholic family. Here is why she thinks this...
Numerious times in the middle of the night, at different hours, and totally different days...sometimes weeks apart, or 2 days apart, the CD player has turned on full blast volume and woken us up. She of course gets freaked out and I have to walk half asleep in my underpants to turn it on, saying don't worry no ghost!
Just last night, I've never heard my car alarm in my life, I didn't even know I had one...but it's parked in the garage and it went off, I sprinted to the car...nothing was there, the doors to the garage were locked. I turned off the alarm. The end.
Another night we were sleeping, and I had the room door shut, someone knocked on it hard. Woke us both up, I screamed "WHAT!" as I opened the door. No one was there. I went around checked the house...all the doors were locked no one inside.
Finally the big kicker, and man do I LOVE this one.
We are watching BS, the bible episode, and right when Penn starts to describe the plauge about frogs in the desert, a FROG jumped across the den infront of the TV.
Omg I was cracking up, my GF starts saying noooooo it's a sign from god!!! hahaha great stuff.
Now I gotta admit, A LOT of weird stuff has obviously gone on in that house, but I try to explain to my GF and my Mom (who when we tell these stories chants SEE god is real, see ghost are real!!!) that it's because of things LIKE THIS, that people believe in ghost and god in the first place. And it's nothing but a cooincidence. My moms rebuttle to this is : There is no such thing as cooincidences!

Oh and I took all the CDs out the cd player and it's never turned on again...regardless I'd like to know why my door was knocked on, the player turned on, and my car alarm went off...but I may never know. But I do know, IT WASN'T GHOST.

Yes, it sounds more like gremlins.

If you have frogs jumping around, your house is wide open to rodents. They like to chew on wires. Just a thought...

Welcome, btw.

Yeah the house gets frogs from time to time lol, no rodents. I'm fairly close the beach....
But for the most parts the frogs are outside or on the poarch.
Infront of the TV during a plauge speech is just the definition of cooincidence.

But no, according to my Mom I'm offending god.

I think a more likely explanation is that your girlfriend has offended Penn & Teller by not believing them. They retaliated by sending frogs into your house during the show.

As for the CD player, definately look for a short in the wire somewhere. My basement is currently getting finished, and due to a short in one of the wires, my central vac kept turning on at seemingly random times. Unplug the CD player. Now if it goes off during the night whilst unplugged, THEN tell your girlfriend to start worrying.

As for someone knocking on your door, this one always freaks me out. I'm asleep, then I hear someone knocking on my bedroom door. I'm sure I was woken up by the sound, though it turns out that I was dreaming that I was asleep, and someone knocked on the door in my dream, which wakes me up. An unsettling experience. The important question is, did your girlfriend hear the knocking as well? Think carefully.

My cd player switches itself on every time the power comes back on after a cut.

Yes she did. I'm positive of that. We thought it might be my Dad since he has access to the house....but it was no one...
The CD player doesn't bug me, the problem is totally solved, I took the CDs out, so the end of that lol.
Again I don't think it's ghost..well I know it's not lol. No such thing.
Another odd thing that freaks out the gf, and I hear reports of this from friends and all kinds of people. My damn Dog barks randomly and will start growling at the air...and focusing her eye sight on nothing. As if she is looking at someone/something. For me it's just annoying, for the GF it's scary.

There could be a lot of reasons for the door knocking - someone dropped a trash can lid outside (or anything heavy for that matter), car backfire, sonic boom (do they still have those?), you get the idea. The fact that the noise woke up you and your GF may mean that neither of you could describe it accurately but just have an impression of a knocking noise.

My wife and I were watching a vampire movie on TV one night, and were suddenly disturbed by two bats flying around in our living room. True story. Really freaked us out.

So a power glitch will make a poorly designed/made cd-player start playing at random times. That's that part of things taken care of.
