Amazing New Product saves fuel, or maybe not

Poking around on MySpace, I get a request to add a friend from BioPerformance. Ok let's see what they're about. On the profile, and their website are all sorts of testimonials, "30% better fuel economy" and so on. Sounds great. They have info about global warming, Al Gore's movie trailer, doom and gloom over oil prices. They claim to have a product, the "top secret gas pill" that when added to your fuel... "The gas pills have the property of modifying the fuels molecular structure and liberating the energy contained within. This is achieved by Brownian motion which consists of the molecular movement of the components of the polymeric chains contained in hydrocarbons." Whatever that means, and there's more mumbo jumbo. And then I found this... "With our generous and most lucrative compensation plan, people can become debt free and financially independent." Yup, it's a get rich quick pyramid scheme, hiding behind being "Green." And then in the fine print is "BioPerformance, Inc. does not guarantee that the product works whatsoever and does not guarantee that you will earn any income whatsoever. BioPerformance, Inc. makes no income or product claims whatsoever. If you use our product and it works, then we believe you will want more."
Nice try BioPerformance.
"Apply for membership and save." Which to me sounds a little like "become a member and be saved."

Now that was a well run little experiment.

But hey, were they TOLD to grind up the pills? I bet they claim it ONLY works if you stick the pill straight into the tank.

Oops, the engine already has that job.

I, for one, do NOT want the energy bound in the molecular structure of my gasoline being liberated while it's still in the tank.

I told him!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/wesh/20060601/lo_wesh/9301463

A good friend tried to get us into this, and I told my husband srtaight up from the get go that their own site says it is not guaranteed! He tried a bottle anyway, and found no benefit. He wouldn't believe ME - and I snooped and uncovered them in 10 seconds. JREF has me checking everything, especially crap like this, and I'm serving crow here for supper tonight.

(and it's my birthday, too!)

There's a technical term for this. It's called a "fire".

There's also a non-technical term for this. It's called "Oh Shi.." BOOM!

The local news here has been covering the state investigation of the product. Some figures bandied about are 26 million dollars. The two sole shareholders in the company are apparently ministers. One admitted in court to transferring money to his lawyer AFTER a judge froze his accounts. The game right now is to figure out where the money is.

Interesting scam. Shame I'm basically honest, 'cause I'm sure I could come up with something better, and in the gfray area of legality where I could get away with it.
