Woo simply everywhere.
I'm always amazed at the "market penetration" of the paranormal branch of wooism; where normally you might be laughed out of the room for suggesting that you'd witnessed something of that nature, within certain areas of interest its tolerated to a far greater degree, if not encouraged.
For example, the theme of the haunted aerodrome/aircraft; on an aviation forum I frequent this has til now been largely contained in one giant thread, to which I have added my objections and presented the sceptical argument to the best of my ability. I now find that a member of a small museum is openly touting a "Ghost Watch" at the North East Aircraft Museum, Sunderland UK. Supposedly this is shortly to appear on Most Haunted in the coming weeks. I used to work for a national museum that was approached by Townhouse to hold one of the Britain's Psychic Challenge episodes there. Thankfully the director interceded as it was thought inappropriate for a museum, especially one which is also a war memorial, to indulge such productions. Other "museums" aren't as informed or as principled it seems. Anyone live nearby that could pay a visit and take a look for us? Like most museums, they do good work, I just have trouble coming to terms with this sort of "sideline". |

Les.
It is near me and I could easily pop along one lunchtime. I have, however, struggled to find their website for more details of Ghost tours but…. I am not sure what are you wanting to know and what you want done ? You talk about a member touting a ghost watch as opposed to the museum…(?) I see there have been a couple of investigations. One joint investigationon 28 Jan this year by Mysteries of the North and Otherworld North East. I can’t find a report but the lack of national news headlines suggest that the evidence gathered consisted of a couple of woos getting really strong feelings in certain parts of the hanger. Perhaps if you can elaborate a bit on what you are after I can check it out. |

Hi Lothian,
It's not so much that I want something done, more of a heads-up for any interested "activist" sceptics that document this sort of thing. I was really just bemoaning the ghoulish nature of the "warbird" fans; sorry if I was being vague in the process. The person advertising it is I believe a volunteer, but the watch is being run by museum management, who also allowed the filming by Most Haunted beforehand. It's on the 8th of July, no other details though as the museum's website no longer exists; the phone number given was 07706-850079. |
