Margery Wakefield, Scientology

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/Library/Shelf/xenu/

I just read this. Since finishing it, this is my first visit to this board. It feels like a safe place. Scientology is truly scary.

I have a question about this:

http://www.whyaretheydead.net/lisa_m.../wakefrpf.html

If this is Wakefield's real affadavit, why does it say she went to Wisconsin when she was offloaded, and not Detroit as it says in the story linked at the start of this post?

It's not terribly important; I'm just curious.

Scientology is vile, but I don't think it's that vile.

I think she's making stuff up.

From the first link:

Note: "Margery" is a fictionalized character whose story combines Wakefield's own experiences with those of other Scientologists.

The facts are carefully concealed from the beginning Scientologist.

So...it was Satan that fought the space battle over Earth 75 million years ago, and not guys from outer space?

It looks like after she got out of Scientology, she became a Christian and has since then projected her new faith on to Scientology, painting it with a Christian shade of color.

So thetans become demons and Hubbard a Satanist.

This woman has just traded one religious high for another.

Yeah, I don't quite buy the preoccupation with Hubbard as a Satanist.

Of all of the truly bizarre and absurd beliefs held by scientologists, I've never come across anything having to do with demons or satan. Alien invasion fleets, crazy ruler of the universe that blows up billions with nuclear weaponry, pathetic and stupid brainwashed "thetans", and crazy movie stars jumping on couches, yes, the devil, no. Fundamental christians have a tendency to liken any non-judeochristian religions with devil worshipping. It doesn't mean that it is true.

From the research I've done. over the years, I have concluded that Hubbard had no (spiritual) beliefs whatsoever. He was neither a satanist nor a scientist (the term scientology is bull); he was a guy who decided to hoodwink folks and get their money.
I am trying to locate Isaac Asimov's description of how LRH, then a fledgling scifi writer, approached Asimov (also a scifi writer) and invited him to create a new religion with him. (Based on what he believed was their shared opinion of suckers being born every minute).
Unfortunatley for humanity, the putz succeeded in building an empire that keeps rolling along long after his death.

I know Mr. Randi and Asi were close. I'm sure deep in the archives there must be some mention of the Hubbard scheme to start a profitable religion.

I'm a huge Asimov fan, and I've read that story somewhere... Only he didn't invite Asimov, he only told him that religion was where the big bucks were, or something like that.

It might've been in one of Asimov's autobiographies.

What I meant to say was what Ryokan said. This woman sounds like one of those fervently born-again Christians, who often exaggerate the evil of their unChristian past - claims that they've been into the baby-eating end of Satanism are very common. Additionally, to these type of Christians, any religion that isn't their particular brand of fundamental Xtianity is automatically Satanic.

Look for references by Harlan Ellison. He claims to have been present when Hubbard was talking about founding a religion to get rich.

I agree with your assessment of Hubbard's motives. Like Mussolini he seems to have had no really deep convictions and simply went where the power and money were.

I believe that Asimov publically crticized Dianetics as being "stupid" when Hubbard first talked about it in Astounding Science Fiction.
