I suspect that would depend on any applicable legislation in your area regarding corrupting the morals of a minor, as well as your relationship with the law enforcement authorities responsible for the enforcement of said laws.

Of course, if you reserve front-row seats for the cops they may just turn a blind eye if a few of the folks taking in the show happen to be a mite underage.

I'm sorry, were you watching the handkerchief?

It's not my problem if you choose to focus on the unimportant parts of the video. . .

If you were to duplicate her act at TAM (just to show how to do the vanish properly, of course), I'm sure I could scrape up the money to come watch. . .

I remeber hearing a story from a fellow magi that works in Vegas, Something about performing for drunk strippers and a vernet hankercheif vanish in her nether regions and she was amazed. Had no idea were it went.

Well, she is good enough (and the video has low resolution enough) to fool anybody who don't know the principle of this trick. I have spent an hour checking the video frame by frame and searching the internet, until I found where the handkerchief is. Maybe she is the best illusionist among strippers and the best stripper among illusionist. Which don't exclude the possibility, that she is bad illusionist and/or bad stripper.

Her name's Ursula Martinez. It's not the horrible technique that bugs me - it's the mugging. I DO like the music though - that tune provided the background for quite a few "Pink Panther" cartoons.

The mugging, the technique, and the fact that she's physically pretty ordinary. But the mugging bugged me most as well.

I'm pretty sure that was from the Montreal Comedy Festival, which would explain the mugging.

A lot of negative comments about this routine. Yes her technique is bad (with the wiggling of the hands after the disapear), yes we all (amateur magicians and up) know how this trick is done. Yes she only does one trick in the entire routine (over and over.) Yes she doesn't have fake boobs (the ones our society has come to expect in a stripper.)

However, she isn't performing for a room full of geeks like you and me. She is performing live for a fairly big layman audience. They are obviously enjoying the show. She shocks them, embarasses them, makes them laugh, and makes them wonder. Watching this video does no justice to her actual performance. Part of her actual performance is the experience of being in a large audience who are engaged in the show, and sending (hate to use the word) energy up to the performer. You can't feel that watching the video.

What I liked about this routine was the clever mechanism for getting her undressed.

"Sending energy up to the performer" sounds woo, but it's just means physicaly and verbaly responding to a performer and that performer seeing/hearing your responses.

Good evening.
I couldn't agree with thatguywhojuggles more. It was a comedy show and the crowd seemed to like it. So what exactly is the problem? Other then the lack of fake boobs.
JPK
PS Do you think if someone hired this women to do this act for Randi's next birthday he would critisize her performance?

This must be going the rounds. It sounds like it has to be the same file I was emailed by a cow-orker last week. I considered posting it here, but bottled out. It is funny, certainly not erotic. The cuts to the audience were the funniest parts. They were certainly enjoying themselves.

In defence of the mugging it established for the audience that it was all in fun, which I think is important in an act like that.

I also think the nudity is a clever gimmick because it makes the trick even more mystifying for people who aren't familiar with the method.

Overall I think it's a good act. She's a one trick pony but that's okay if she's only one of a variety of acts in a night.

Nothing like a little mod action to revive interest in a thread.

2 1/2 years here, and I finally get modded for something.

<sniff> I really feel like I belong, now. . .

Millions of people watched the show Joey and enjoyed it. Doesn't mean it was a good show. The stripper performed the trick very poorly, that's all I was saying - no matter how much the audience liked it, it was still sloppy work. Kind of like that Chris Bliss video where he juggles poorly and everyone applauds. It's just not a good performance, but it doesn't mean that it won't be enough to satisfy a good number of people.
