Let's track their inspiration!
Inspired by a recent epiphany regarding David Icke, where do these CT-wackjobs get their inspiration?
Icke probable got his inspiration for the lizards here. The story fits to an almost T: Alien Invasion, Lizards posing as man with the ultimate goal of inslaving humanity, hybrids etc. Now add the Iluminati and their supposed ties to free masons etc. and you got a hit! The time line even fits! According to Icke himself, his first book was published in 1989 which would have meant he could have seen the series first. And the illuminati rumours have been around for centuries...... Wonder if he ever got sued for copyright plagiarism....... But where does the rest of these bloodsuckers get their inspiration? Any guesses? |

As far i learned or see it, most of it is just liking or hating the gov or zionism. And then there are the people who are just fascinated from something misterious about govs/secret societies. If we all would talk about our believes or intentions, the problem would´nt exist...

For 9/11 conspiracists, let's not forget this: http://www.tv.com/lone-gunmen/show/3...ode_guide.html
And, of course, elements of this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133093/ I remember seeing a picture of the LC boys dressed up like this. (But I must confess that even I have used that sunglass symbolism before.) ------------------ And as for Icke and the Visitors, it's good to know that it was released in Britain only a year after its release in the U.S. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085106/releaseinfo |

If I recall my Sci-Fi correctly, an article was written for SFX magazine in the UK about "V" and the original pitch was that a group of Nazi's take over the US not a group of Aliens.
Sorry, I do not have a link to back that up, will keep looking. eta There was also another series, about the same time as Dark Angel, where the US did fall under the control of an evil group of political would be overloards. Again I can not recall the series name (sorry) however it did have Terri from WWE in it for one episode. Also "Alien Encounters" magazine (spun off from Uri Gellers Encounters (which folded very quickly after the split)) ran a theory which included the US / USSR having a battle in space over the surface of a gigantic spherical 'Death Globe'. I think The Fire has found somthing here... |

I would go back even farther to a Movie from the 70's called "The Towering Inferno" (based on a couple of novels called, IIRC "The Tower" and "The Glass Inferno").
After all, that tower burned for hours during the movie and IT didn't collapse, and since Hollywood is a paragon of accurate science information....

Here is what you were looking for. It was based on Sinclair Lewis' It Can't Happen Here, where the U.S. in the 1930's is taken over by homegrown fascists (not the NSDAP).
"Director–producer Kenneth Johnson wrote an adaptation titled Storm Warnings, in 1982. The script was presented to NBC, for production as a television mini-series, but the NBC executives rejected the initial version, claiming it was too 'cerebral' for the average American viewer. To make the script more marketable, the American fascists were re-cast as anthropophagic extraterrestrials, taking the story into the realm of science fiction. The new, re-cast story was the mini-series V, which premiered on May 3, 1983." SOURCE (ahem): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/It_Can't_Happen_Here |

Some other conspiracist misunderstandings and deceptions are also based on fiction.
The notion of a grand cosmic battle between absolute Good and absolute Evil has roots going back to Zoroastrianism in Persia around 1500 BCE. This myth is adopted and adapted by many later religions, including Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. I would suggest that this belief that an evil force is at work in the world (Satan, the Devil, etcetera) is a sort of background meme for conspiracist views of history. Some believers even say that The Conspiracy (whichever one they fret about) is a tool of Satan. SOURCE: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontl.../etc/cron.html (I highly recommend this timeline to critical thinkers and critics of apocalypticism.) ------------------ The Protocols of the Elders of Zion: This is ultimately based on Dialogues in Hell Between Machiavelli and Montesquieu, an 1864 satirical novel by Maurice Joly. Joly was criticizing Napoleon III, emperor or France, and Machiavelli was the machiavellian schemer (representing the despot) arguing against Montesquieu’s republican values. Four years later, Hermann Goedsche copied the main story of Joly’s book for his own novel, Biarritz. "Goedsche's original contribution consists mainly of introducing Jews to do the plotting to take over the world." Then Goedsche’s novel was reworked by agents of a Czarist Russian secret police unit that was working in Paris in the 1890's. Under the supervision of Pyotr Ivanovich Rachkovsky, these "Protocols of the Elders of Zion" were forged "to strengthen the czar Nicholas II's position by exposing his opponents as allies with those who were part of a massive conspiracy to take over the world". The Protocols were first published in 1903, in Russia. Then again in 1905, and ever since. SOURCES: http://skepdic.com/protocols.html and http://www.straightdope.com/mailbag/mzionprotocol.html ------------------ The Report from Iron Mountain was another satire that was taken seriously by the gullible. It claimed that it was a U.S. government report about how peace threatens the economy. It was actually a hoax written by Leonard C. Lewin in 1967, after an idea by Victor Navasky. After the Pentagon Papers were released, Lewin came clean. But that didn't keep groups like the Liberty Lobby and people like L. Fletcher Prouty from still believing it even into the 1990’s. SOURCE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rep..._Iron_Mountain ------------------ The Roswell UFO Crash and Cover-up: A tale spun in 1980 by Charles Berlitz and William Moore in The Roswell Incident. Berlitz was also responsible for popularizing the Bermuda Triangle legend. SOURCES: http://skepdic.com/roswell.html and http://skepdic.com/bermuda.html |
