Abramoff Subject of house report

Due for release tomorrow the report, based on Abramoff's records, supposedly details some 450 top level White House contacts including meetings with
Karl Rove.

Defenders of the White House are already saying these records are exaggerated.

Confirming report, more breaking news out there now:

By GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS

Sept. 28, 2006 — A Congressional report due out tomorrow is expected to show now-convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his associates had far more extensive contacts with the White House than President Bush's staff ever acknowledged.
The report from the Republican-led House Government Affairs Committee will state that Abramoff had as many as 450 contacts with the White House, and prime among his lobbying targets was former White House political director Ken Mehlman, and Bush's adviser Karl Rove.

In total, the committee was able to document 485 contacts between White House officials and Abramoff and his lobbying team at the firm Greenberg Traurig from January 2001 to March 2004, with 82 of those contacts occuring in Rove's office, including 10 with Rove personally. The panel also said that Abramoff billed his clients nearly $25,000 for meals and drinks with these officials during that period.

Well the timing of the release of this report can only be for political purposes.

As the old saying goes, "you stir the $hit, you're going to get some on you."

Of course the records are exaggerated, or out of context, or incomplete . . .

I could have sworn that President Bush said he never had any dealings with Abramoff. It'll be interesting to see what this does to the November elections.
