Criticizing Young Earth Theory isn't very P.C.

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories...MPLATE=DEFAULT

The above story involves the Gov. of Montana being critical of a State Senator who believes the earth is only 4 or 5,000 years old. The State Senator is upset, says the gov. is insulting Christians. Sounds a P.C. standard by a different name.

I thought mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging morons were only a subset of Christians. It's all the other Christians who should complain that this guy is trying to shoehorn them into the YEC cult.

I've certainly heard the term "Young Earth" before, but this YEC just sounds wrong to me. It's a poorly worded term, IMHO.

Sounds like no standards at all on the part of the Senator - certainly no intelligence unless there are enough idiots in Montana to keep him in office and he is just pandering to their ignorance.

Montana is the site of some very famous dinosaur digs. Despite that, I doubt an adhearance to YEC (yes, young earth creationism) is an electoral disadvantage.

If once preruses the literature from the ICR, which I have done lightly, one finds that these folks are most definitely playing catch up ball. Even with a few bona fide geologists and paleantologists on staff, they have decades of research and testing to do before their body of work could hope to catch up to what they are trying to rebut.

I'll check back with them in the year 2025 and see if any of them are close to catching up.

Ahhhh... but let's not forget that Christianity is a faith founded on a persecution complex. 2000 Years ago, it was the Romans. Today it's the "liberal, atheist, sec-u-lar humanists" who are try to repress Christian faith by banning prayer in school, removing monuments of the 10 Commandments from the courthouse lawn, giving women the right to vote and to abort possible future Christians, not to mention allowing homosexuals to walk the same streets as the faithful.

However, I do note the irony of conservatives playing the "bigotry-card" after all the screaming they did in the 1990s about "left-wing political correctness" in academia (some of it real depending on the school and/or department, but most of it was just hot air).

Not mocking this state senator may be politically correct, but mocking him is correct.

Most of what you get out of academia is hot air. Sturgeon's Law and all that. It's that 10% that is worth keeping.

You are far too kind. It's a faith whose foundation is that it's god planned his own murder at the hands of his subjects, just so he could lord it over them for all eternity, forcing unquestioning obesience under the threat of a very, very unpleasant afterlife.

Um, was that not P.C. of me?

Wait, you mean that the New Testament was just one big CONSPIRACY!

Uh, they did it outside, not inside, on top of a hill. And then it rained, but not soon enough to rain it out, like a certain baseball game last night.

I heard the conspiracy was for Peter to run away with Mary Magdalene, but since that was in the "Book of Bonus" (non canonical) I can't be too sure.

Errr, the book I'm reading now is called "The Jesus Papers" and it's intimating that exact thing. So far (about page 125 of 300 pages) it's been a good read and I have my tinfoil hat on tightly. It has lots of Coulterish footnotes. Just because the author was also the co-author of "Holy Blood, Holy Grail", I will reserve judgement ....
