(Ed) My Mayoral bid this spring
Since this IS a current events, political section, I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I'll be making another Mayoral bid this spring. My platform is unchanged, but I hope to do a little more actual campaigning this go round. On my first run, I merely registered as a write-in candidate, garnering about 3% (? I forget what percentage I actuall won) of the votes cast. On my next run, my name was actually ON the ballot, and while I did garner a greater 'percentage' of the votes cast, the actual number of votes for me dropped... It was very disheartening, but I am coming back this time, no holds barred. I am talking fish hooking AND eye gouging. I think I have a somewhat better chance, given that I won't be facing an incumbant. The presiding Mayor is stepping aside, and retiring, so we'll see what happens. Is there anyone here who has taken part in, ran, and or won any local elections? I'd REALLY like to hear about some election strategies that work... |

My uncle ran as a token Democrat in a heavily Republican district for state house once, and lost badly. They gave him $2000 to print up leaflets and crap and he and family walked it all over the place.
That's about it. |

Good luck. Make sure to tell us if a miracle occured and you got above 10% of the vote.
What's your slogan, btw? Did you manage to work "King of the Americas" in there? |

Good for you KOA!
Are you running for Mayor of Muenster, TX again? And when is the election? Just to remind/notify all concerned, here is the last thread you had about your political aspirations. http://forums.randi.org/showthread.p...491#post981491 Running for local office... |

"Vote Forward, Vote KNABE"
That's as simple and easy to remember as I could make it. I might put a spinning wheel somewhere on it, as well. My platform is low taxes through more efficient spending practices, such as paving projects intended to create long term roads, rather than patching and laying hot mix over already poor road services. We are suffering a race way symdrom, with our current paving practices. They just lay out some hot oil, and then overlay a hot mix overtop of an existing paved road. The result is that the roads keep getting taller, while the drainage ditches keep getting deeper. No one in Muenster yields to the right (like the rest o fthe civilized world does), we yeild to those without a drainage ditch to drive through. These ditches cause vehicle misalignment, and when outsiders come to town THEY yeild to the right, and then get crashed into by a Muenster driver who doesn't. Instead of just overlaying hot mix, we should be lifting up part of the street, putting down a paving fabric, and then laying hot mix down. A street surface is only as good as its base. Right now we pave, or rather re-pave 2 or 3 streets a year. But in 7 years that street is already cracking up. A street paved the way I want to do it will last 4 times that long, AND not cause these raceways, or the damage to people's vehicles. I'll post more of my platform when I get some time... Too bad you don't have that lost nuclear technology of the ancients. That would have been a real boon to efficient road paving.

What's your position on impeaching Bush?
This appears to be a local issue in San Francisco so maybe it could be a local issue in Muenster. http://www.commondreams.org/headlines06/0301-02.htm |

Now that's a campaign slogan if I ever heard one! Kind of like "Sunflowers Die in November" (Roosevelt vs Landon) |
