Sadly, when the police arrived on the scene, their first comment to her was, "So... um... you gonna drink that?"

Okay, the article claims that the power was out, but that wasn't a factor in the murder.

But if the power was out, then the fridge wasn't working, so of course the beer was warm!!!

Clearly this woman takes her drinking seriously. She kills her husband so she can go to jail so that she's never far from a bar.

Maybe she was mad because he didn't think to put it outside in the snow.

In her defense, I'd just like to say that being ice cold is the only thing that makes mass-produced American beer even remotely tolerable.

On the other hand, why is it so f***ing hard to find a pub that serves good stout or dark ale at a proper temperature (55-60F) instead of ice f***ing cold. I'd like to be able to taste my beer, thanks; that's why I'm ordering the expensive micro/import stuff, not American horsepiss.

And the article says only that he tried to give her warm beer. Shockingly wicked, of course, but hardly a capital offence.

Your first paragraph answers your second one. Most pubs and bars that I know of only have one or two refrigerators and they probably aren't willing to set one at a higher temperature just to keep one or two brands of beer warmer.

Suggestion - let your beer sit on the bar for 10 minutes before you drink it.

Nope, also happens at upscale pubs that not only serve nothing but higher-quality imports and micros, but are smug about it as well. I think it's just an American thing to serve pretty much any drink ice cold, exept coffee and maybe tea.

Sometimes I would actually drink HOT beer. Yes, hot. I had a black 69 Chevelle with black interior with the windows rolled up in up to 107 degree heat (in the shade), and get off work and then pop it open and drink it driving home. And I never killed myself for serving myself hot beer.

Not to burst your bubble, but they do serve both coffee and tea ice cold. Granted, you do have to ask for it that way.

Not quite. In some places (mainly parts of the South, IIRC), you have to specifically request hot tea otherwise you get it iced by default; but most places it's hot. I've never hear of anyplace in the US that would default to iced coffee, you have to specifically request it. Which is why I worded it the way I did. There are some places you can get to serve beer at the proper temperature, too, but it's usually like pulling teeth to get it.

You should have, heathen. :P

Actually, one of my favorite winter things is mulled ale, using a thick malty-sweet Belgian ale. Too bad it's not really cold enough here for that right now.

But the power was out due to an ice storm so why not just leave the suds on the front stoop?

So someone was a stoop, for not putting it out on the stoop.
