The business of Conjurors

I am trying to think: when it comes to conjurors are there any well known female conjurors? I can not think of any.
All the females I have seen in the business are magician's aids or distractions.

I knew one woman that had been performing off and on for 45 years as a clown that did a fair bit of magic at kids parties and company/family events.

I notice a lot of people grumble at the price of a performer/conjuror. Some companies are generous, and performers I know get the odd gig at these events or at community events.

I think the performers' fees are acceptable, but the price seems to be a deterent for most individuals considering hiring a performer for 30 or 45 minutes.
If the performer lowers their fees they may get more gigs but that can put the performer in an awkward position as the business gets devalued, and would largely make it difficult for other performers to justify keeping their rates as is.

What are some of the issues/challenges for performers/conjurors other than the revealing of their tricks?

Charlotte, the female half of the Pendragons, is a conjuror in her own right, although I don't know that she emphasizes that fact. She had demonstrated some decent close-up tricks on her own, and has performed a Houdini-like underwater escape on television.

There is a certain female magician who gets TV time every now and then. I will not mention her name, because I believe she is a poor perfomer. She has revealed more magic secrets unintentionally than has the Masked Magician intentionally.

It seems to me that a few years ago there was another female performer who was quite good at what she did, and I believe she even appeared on one of the "Best Magic" specials. I cannot remember her name, however. Unfortunately for her, her considerable skill at sleight-of-hand apparently could not compensate for the unpardonable sin of being "unattractive." Pity.

You are correct. They are not very many female performers as well known as the males. I have known quite a few but honestly their names escapes me.

Who was the babe that Rich Little was diddling? She was OK though not near as good as Lance Burton (didn't she start as his assistant?)

Glenn Falkenstien's wife is excellent as is Charlotte Pendragon.

It's an interesting question though - why is magic still mainly a male dominated profession?
