Who writes Mr. Randi's Commentaries?

Reading this week's commentary, it occurred to me that maybe Mr. Randi is not the sole author of all that we see.

Can anyone enlighten us about this?

When I talked to him at TAM, he indicated that he writes them all...with the exception of the time he was recovering.

Yes. Hal Bidlack wrote some and introduced other guests, such as Michael Shermer, for others.
Anything signed by Randi was written by Randi. His style is distinctive.

Don't forget Robert Lancaster, he has been seen in Randi's vicinity recently, and I doubt his beard is a coincidence.

Yeah, I've often wondered if beards could be conflated to win an argument, or even a pint of good lager...

I have had my beard for over 30 years - free pints are still avery rare thing. Maybe I keep it trimmed too short. Now, about using it to win arguments - nope, that doesn't work either.

Santa writes the commentaries?

The commentaries are 100% in Randi's style IMO. Once in a while I've felt they should have been more carefully proof read and fact checked. That they aren't is evidence they are of single-person (Randi) authorship.

Randi writes it all, and makes the graphics too, in most cases.

I will occasional add something to the bottom section (dont' forget to register for TAM!) etc, but Randi still edits even that.

If there's ever a time that Randi isn't writing it, he'll be let us know.

There's actually no such thing as 'James Randi'. He is a construct; a conflation of several entities, all part of the Illuminati, who write under the nom de plume of 'James Randi'.

In fact, it's kind of obvious, when you look at it. Clever buggers; if you take his name, translate it into Urdu, then into Hebrew, take the letters and apply gematria, use these as coordinates on a map of the Solomon Islands, take the first letter of the tribes that fall under each coordinate, and add them together, you get 'Snookie-kins', which is what Sylvia Browne calls her spirit guide when nobody's around to hear.

Duh!

Well...I've read through all the theories, and I pick Athon's. Why? Because it's the longest post. If that isn't evidence of the truth, then what is?

I am envisioning a game show on this theme... maybe we could call it:

TRUE or WOO?

(by the way...Randi has admitted to shamelessly stealing words from Hawkeye per her "am I psychic..." post--he was in a rush, and she stated her case against Sylvia with aplomb, so he borrowed some especially nice phraseology.)

From this week's commentary:

Quote:
PLAGIARISM?

Last week, rushing to get SWIFT together, I downloaded, edited, vetted, stored, juggled, and otherwise handled the huge amount of text that I have to organize in order to produce this page every week. In the process, I inadvertently failed to credit a correspondent, Chris Calvey, with some text that quite well described what I had to say about a certain item. Now, the Forum watchdogs have begun barking at this innocent error.
Is this relevant to this thread?

I would make one minor correction however, I'm not a female.

One missed attribution in a column regularly filled with attributions, an admission of the mistake by a very busy man, and the world has come to an end.
If I were Mr. Randi, I'd just say screw it, you guys write the column.

Sort of.

My original post wasn't implying anything other than it would surprise me if Mr. Randi didn't occasionally receive help with his weekly commentary.

Hello, hello. It's me. Yes, HawkeyeMD. Female. Was at the Skepchick party.

Lest I be accused of plagiarism, let it be known that I did mention to any number of people that I'm not 'that' Hawkeye.

One small correction, however: not a premed student. Med student, third year! Who just finished Primary Care, which is why I have free time this weekend to check out the Forum.

Now, apologies, but can I ask...who are you? I don't remember your forum handle, I'm afraid.

I was the really gorgeous skepchick, remember? Ha! Yes--you are a medical student--I was a genetic counselor; we talked genes, I believe. And I ate a phallic chocolate items. And if they post a picture of the volunteers with green ribbons taken on the last day of TAM, then I will show you who I am...otherwise, you'll just have to imagine.

(And I promise to be equally nice to the male Hawkeye too. I wouldn't hold it against a member for having a member. I just got my Hawkeyes mixed up which is perfectly understandable, right? There's a Hawk One too....and you are all "bird names with an extra word" in my head... so is "fowl sound". I'm new at linking the names with the faces...so don't be too hard on me, folks...)

Articulett was the one who never stopped talking the entire TAM! When the volunteers went out to lunch at Peppermill the day of setup, she didn't even stop long enough to take a bite of the enormous fruit salad she ordered!

We threatened to make her wear it as a hat (a'la Carmen Miranda) if she didn't finish it...
