Attention: SoCal Skeptics/Jedi!!

Loon shall be gracing us in SoCal with his presence the weekend of February 17th and it just so happens that the California Science Museum has a new exhibit called "Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination". In the chatroom decided we should combine Loon's visit with a visit to the museum. So tentatively (subject to change) we will be gathering at the California Science Museum Sunday February 18th. Probably when they open at 10.

Join with us and we will rule the galaxy as Skeptics and Jedi.

Remember...there is no try. Do or do not.

We're hitting the desert the day before, but we should be able to make it. Mr. LostAngeles has agreed thus far to attending.

"I'm having brunch with my grandparents that morning" is probably the lamest excuse in the world, but...I'm having brunch with my grandparents that morning. It seems like there's never enough SoCal skeptics stuff going on, so I'm bummed to have to miss this.

It sounds good to me ... and then there's Skeptics Society at 2 @ CalTech for those interested. I offer my transportation services if necessary.

Plus, I've never seen any of the Star Wars films from start to finish, so I likely wouldn't "get" much of it.

I know...I know..........

There was a big article in the LATimes Weekend section about this.

I'm planning on going...I guess I'll just call Loon Sunday morning?

Who's going to the Skeptics Society thing at 2pm? I can't make it to the Science Center, but I'll definitely be at Caltech.

Due to recent events, I'm going to have to relist myself as tentative on this.

I'm a "most likely," depending on how much work I wind up having this weekend. (I don't pick up my weekend assignments until Friday night, meaning there's always a solid chance I'll have to cancel any actually fun weekend plans I might want to make).

Is there a place where people could perhaps all meet up beforehand at a predetermined time and go in together?

Look for one of these three (El Spectre, Whyatica, Loon):

Here's me and a Stormtrooper. I'm the one on the left. Stormtroopers don't wear tie-dye.

Great pictures! For those that haven't been to any Cal-Tech skeptics lectures yet, they are usually held in the Baxter Hall on campus. While that facility used to be sufficient, given the size of people now seeking to attend each lecture, the room has grown to "standing room only" each and every time.

I found out this past Sunday that the Skeptics have a new policy - instead of arriving and entering through the front and back of the lecture hall, you can now only enter through the front, and as soon as the event is at capacity, they are announcing , with signs on the entrances, that the event is SOLD OUT, and will no longer admit latecomers.

To me, the lesson here is that the Skeptics Society needs to charge a little more, and utilize the larger Beckman Auditorium for their events (they do use Beckman for more popular speakers, like Richard Dawkins, and Jared Diamond). I'm willing to pay more to be able to see the speakers I came to see after driving 90 minutes.

Anyway, I had a chance to walk around the Cal Tech campus and take a few pictures:

Hey Frogberto, I didn't see you at the lecture.
I saw El_Spectre and Loon at the Skeptics Society lecture.
It was a rather boring lecture though and the sound quality was off, meh, but I did learn some things.
