The Website of the Saudi Religious Police

http://www.hesbah.gov.sa/disapprove.asp

According to wikipedia, this is a site where Saudis can snitch on each other about various religious crimes. Can anyone translate Arabic? I can think of a couple choice words I'd like to direct at those douchebags.

Hello, Homeland Security? This is your buddy over at SAPD, we've got a nutter raving on at us about this and that. Sounds dreadfully like a terrorist you know. You may want to contact his ISP for his address so you can find out exactly what kind of terrorist he is. Better yet, rendition him over here and we'll do it.

???

I'm sorry, I must be too tired to tell, but is this a joke? I mean, why would the Saudi police have an unsecured (it seems?) website to the general public, if twas created to "snitch on each other"?

Why would a website that basically serves as a conduit to send emails be "unsecured"?

Don't take my word for it, check it out:

Quote:
The Saudi Arabian Mutaween are tasked with enforcing Sharia as defined by the government; purportedly the Committee for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice "comprises more than 3,500 officers in addition to thousands of volunteers...often accompanied by a police escort" who have the power to arrest unrelated males and females caught socializing, enforce Islamic dress-codes, prayer schedules, and Muslim dietary laws prohibiting the consumption or sale of alcoholic beverages and pork, and seize banned consumer products and media regarded as "un-Islamic" (such as CDs/DVDs of various Western musical groups, television shows and film). Additionally, they actively prevent the practice or proselytizing of other religions within Saudi Arabia, where such is banned.[12][13]

Most recently, the police have issued a decree banning the sale of dogs and cats, seen as a sign of Western influence. The decree which applies to the Red Sea port city of Jiddah and the holy city of Mecca bans the sale of cats and dogs because “some youths have been buying them and parading them in public,” according to a memo from the Municipal Affairs Ministry to Jiddah’s city government.[14]

The Saudi mutaween recently launched a website where people can anonymously report tips about "un-Islamic" activities within that country.[15]

An incident attributed to the Saudi mutaween occurred on March 11, 2002, when they prevented schoolgirls from escaping a burning school in Mecca -- because the girls were not wearing headscarves and abayas (black robes). Fifteen girls died and 50 were injured as a result. There was widespread public criticism afterwards, both internationally and within Saudi Arabia itself.[16]

There is also widespread criticism of flogging as a means of punishment.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutaween#Saudi_Arabia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Committ...ention_of_Vice

Of course, wikipedia could be in error...

The website has their seal:

I suppose it could be a joke. A very elaborate joke.

According the Google's translation, some of the choices for the e-mail topic include:
"Complacency in Prayer"
"Western Habits"
"Sugar and drugs"

If it's true, it made me think immediately of a thread just started, '1984'. 1984 is not just about communism, it is about totalitarianism, and control of people by the state, using various means to induce a state of fear and hatred.

Yes, I'd like to report I saw a girl's ankle the other day. It was all creamy and white and a little sweaty and, whew, see what effect this evil is having? Please arrest her.

There was a show recently on the TV show in Australia called '4 Corners'. It has a very good reputation. Here is an articule they did on the religious police in Iran.

So use a computer at a library or similar - or an open computer at a college etc. Report various high level Saudis for sodomy with piggies!

In all ‘crimes against chastity’ there should be at least two people swinging from the crane.

Wouldn't want to do that... we all know what happens to those who dare to whisper the heretical suggestion that Islam isn't peaceful, don't we?
