Man pierces Milosevic's grave with pole

Mon Mar 5, 11:49 PM ET

BELGRADE, Serbia - Former President
Slobodan Milosevic's grave has been desecrated by a man who pierced it with a wooden pole in an ancient Balkan ritual to make sure that an evil spirit never returns, his former party said Monday.
The man, whose name is Miroslav Milosevic but who is not related to the ex-Serbian president, said he carried out the "performance" to spite Milosevic admirers who have been preparing to mark the first anniversary of the autocrat's death.

Milosevic's Socialist Party of Serbia, which ruled Serbia with a strong fist in the 1990s, condemned the "vandalism" committed Saturday by the Milosevic-era dissident.

He slightly damaged the grave in the eastern town of Pozarevac by inserting a 3-foot-long pole into the grave, aiming at what he said was the late president's heart.

Couldn't hurt to be sure....

Is it even possible to "desecrate" his grave?

Would exposing his corpse, tearing off his head, and sh****** down his neck even desecrate it?

Sadly, this seems to represent some sort of clinging to silly superstitions that has more serious effects. For a start, it brings unwanted attention to him again when it is least required.

Surely Milosevic, the ex-tyrant, is still dead and rotting in his box one year on. So we should all take heart that such is the case, and not resort to semi-religious fear in place of more rational thought on the matter.

Seemed more like a political statement than a superstitious one to me.

Hopefully no one digs him up and pours blood into the coffin to bring him back to life.

True, but driven by obvious superstition.

For someone with Duke Nukem as his avatar that is, of course, standard procedure before the real desecration even begins.

Futurama fans know that he would sit up abruptly, yell "blah!", and then explode in his coffin, were he a vampire.

I disagree. This person is certainly aware of the superstition which gave rise to this particular "ritual"; but I think he simply exploited it as just a creative way of calling Slobodon "evil". I don't think this guy, or anyone else, is actually "afraid" of Milosevic's "ghost" or anything like that.

. . . I think you're right or they would have dug him up, cut off his head and stuffed the mouth with garlic. Come to think of it, that would have been pretty cool too.

Am I the only one thinking this event would make a lovely commemorative snowglobe? I can see it now, on QVC: "The 'Milosevic Corpse-Pole 2007 Snowglobe' will be a lovely keepsake which will become a treasured heirloom. It will look great on your Christmas tree. See the fine workmanship and the exquisite detail! Look at that disturbed grave earth! And when you wind it up, black blood gushes up from the rotting corpse beneath, while chimes play 'Caribbean Queen' by Billy Ocean. Order yours today!"

Should I be worried that I also thought it would make a lovely commemorative snowglobe?

My choice for the song was "Ding, Dong the witch is dead."

Thank you for understanding the issue properly, Joshua. So many people misunderstood this stunt, including some of our posters in this thread.

Hehe, yeah, that did cross my mind as I wrote that. Duke stole it from Dr. Detroit, with Dan Aykroyd, who stole it from god knows whom.
