Judy Woods: Coma?

Okay, we've all seen the claim tossed around that Judy Woods was in a coma. Usual number used is 6 years, but I've seen it range from 5-7 years. The only evidence I can find on this is from here: http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/Show...jsp?tid=495285 and, frankly, that is not a credible enough source for me.

So, was she or wasn't she?

At Clemson, she used to tell students she was in a coma for several years. But since I never had a class with her, I'm only reporting hearsay.

In terms of credibility, I rank this down there with the rumor that Benjamin Chertoff is Michael Chertoff's cousin. Perhaps lower.

In middle school, we had a teacher who was out for medical leave for most of a year, and the rumor spread that she had received a lobotomy. This was, of course, not true, but that didn't stop the rumor from persisting.

I think this is a fairly common type of rumor for kids to spread about their teachers when they don't like the teacher and see them as dotty or flighty.

I bring this up for a couple of reasons:
1) People have used the coma claim as a debunk (by using it to explain irrational thinking)
2) People have used the coma claim as an ad hom
3) If she were in a coma, depending on the cause, it could be used to substantiate #1
4) If she were not in a coma, but was in fact claiming she had been in one, it could be used to substantiate #1

The story may be hearsay and is not needed to understand her strange theories on 9/11. Or is there a relationship between comas and crazy ideas on 9/11? http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=495285

Is the coma story real or made up? Are her crazy ideas independent coma, or due to her coma, or just made up to explain her crazy ideas?

Is anyone even close to thinking her ideas on 9/11 have merit? Her beam weapons? Yes there are beam weapons and they have shot down missiles. But the energy to vaporize/dustify steel can be calculated and she could explain why there is no such power source available today. Yet she leaves that large hole open for idiot truthers to believe and calculate how and who did it!

Her rhetoric seems to be the proof she is still in a coma!

Her e-mail address is on her Janedoe website, e-mail her and ask.

On that note, Steven Jones is still refusing to answer my e-mail. Wuss.

I agree. If you feel like you need to fall back on the coma rumor to convince someone that her ideas have no basis in reality, it's time to stop trying to convince that person.

The University won't release her medical information, and since she's no longer employed, I doubt you'll find anyone who will care enough about it anyway.

Plus it supposedly occurred prior to her becoming a prof.

Being in a coma explains irrational thinking?

If the coma was a result of, or resulted in, brain damage it would help explain it.

We've all heard this rumor, and from my memory the only place I've actually seen it is on the "rate my teacher" website.

Quite frankly I don't see how it matters. While it might be used to explain WHY she reasons the way she does, in debate it is useless and could be considered an argument ad hominem.

It's a matter of interest, to be sure. But in debate we address the claims she put forward, not whether she was absent for part of the nineties / naughties.
