Could this be a case of the biggest waste of celluoid?

Freddy vs. Jason

Is this trip really necessary? What could be the motive behind this drek (other then the obvious $$$)? What's going to be next? Luke vs. Alien?

Well, given that every Friday The 13th movie SUCKED, and every NMOES after the first one SUCKED, what did you expect?

I am officially making the following prediction about this movie:

The trailer is going to be awesome. The movie is going to suck.

That oughta do it.

Seriously, how will this end? Jason wins? Freddie wins? They tie? Some third party comes in and kicks both their butts? They team up and take over the world? Maybe they get into politics or start a school for the blind. But yes, you're right, if this movie makes $$$ we can look forward to all kinds of rip-offs.

After some recent trips down to the video shop and looking in the $2 ex-rental for sale box, I am amazed at what is made and actually makes it to rental. So much money spent on so much dross. You can rest safely in the knowledge, that, no matter how bad it is, there is always something worse out there.

And how about Michael Myers? He was first, wasn't he?

couldnt agree with you more. the first nightmare was pretty clever and had some genuine scares but other than that you just have two awful movie franchises.

Hollywood is totally bereft of creativity. I'm not sure of the number, but most of the movies in the last 5 to 10 years have been rehashes or part 2's of other "successful" movies.

Micheal Myers (the villian from Halloween, not the guy that played in Austin Powers), would wipe the floor with both of them.

On the same note, "Aliens vs Preadtor" is actually going to be made sometime in the near future. I'll be the first in line for that one.

I actually rather enjoyed the first F13. I mean sure, it was a silly horror movie, but it was creative enough, especially since I did NOT know the 'twist' beforehand. I didn't even think to guess at it, since I was expecting...

spoiler here:
Jason to be the bad guy, as in the later movies, which I HAD seen. It was cool that he was not.
Spoiler over.

I don't think Jason vs. Freddy can even possibly be worse than Jason X, where Jason is re-animated in the far future on a space ship.

Yes, and Halloween was far and away the best film. But then they made sequels.

I just went to the Freddy vs. Jason page on imdb. Not to give anything away, but Freddy gets 1st billing while Jason gets 6th, behind such luminaries as Kelly Rowland, formerly of Destiny's Child and Jason Ritter, who is quite possibly John Ritter's son. Also, it is produced by New Line Cinema, who produced all of the Freddy movies, but only two Jason movies.

Anyone wanna bet me who wins this thing?

So... they're basically going to make a movie about a monster we'll only catch glimpses off fighting against a creature that most of the time is invisible? :-P Should be fun.

Maybe not most, but the number of reruns is incredible. And most of them aren't any better than the original, which makes you wonder why they bothered.

I was an extra on the current #1 box office movie in the US. It is the 3rd part in a trilogy of semi-funny movies. I heard a rumor on the set that the movie was a secondary concern on the part of the movie-makers. In fact, the main focus was the upcoming DVD-trilogy-boxset. For example, they actually set aside time to film "deleted scenes" that never had a chance of making it in the movie.

At least, that was the rumor I heard.

Oh, also, it is the first time I have been in the #1 grossing box office movie. I would like to thank the academy.

Alien VS Predator is a useable idea at least: Predator hunts things in hot humid weather for sport, preferably creatures that fight back; aliens are creatures that like hot humid weather and fight back (to put it mildly).

It was also a very successful comic.

Freddy vs Jason, though? What the hell is this, "Death Match Schlock Horror Villians Wrestling"? Will Hulk Hogan get in the cage with the two of them?

Well, I haven't seen it yet, but I was filmed for it. I may have ended up on the cutting room floor. The best I can hope for is 3 seconds of air time, from either too far away to really make me out, or from the knees down. Either way I am taking full credit for the success of the movie, and passing the buck on the quality of it.

Don't know if this is the biggest waste, some of us are waiting for Mel Gibson's Jesus vs. Adam Sandler's Little Nicky....

I might actually watch that one. Rooting, for once, for Adam Sandler

Gigli might actually be a good rental, in that MST3K kind of way...

(edited to add) I dont' know about Predator vs. Alien, but I *have* seen this cinematic masterpiece:http://www.theforce.net/theater/shor...atman_deadend/

I can't wait to see it. I grew up on that stuff. After Fridat the 13th part 3 it seemed all there was to do was check out what new way they came up with to have Jason murder people, some were quite creative. Some were brutal, others invoked physical comedy, although the punch line was usually a decapitation.
But, I mean c'mon. The triple decap of the paintball guys in part 5, the picking up the sleeping bag with the person in it and slamming it into the tree resulting in a broken back in part 6 (I think), the girls face pushed through the metal door on a camper and the metal stretching into the shape of her face, the double spear impalement of the humping couple in part 2, the guy who gets run through with the metal pole while he's in the porta-potty, I could go on...

I don't want any of this Scream-I know what you did last summer self-referential ironic crap. I want over the top, goofy, porno violence. And boobies! At least two sets of bare boobies, bare minimum. And shortly after I see those boobies the girls wearing them need to be disembowled with farming equipment as they run naked through the woods.

And if Jason and Freddy fight somewhere in there, that's cool too.

By any chance did you like the Final Destination movies? Just watched them again this weekend with my nephews. They loved it.

Final Destination, the first one, was cute. The airplane part at the beginning was the best part by far though..

I saw "House of 1000 Corpses" by Rob Zombie. It was self referential without the LOOKIT ME! LOOKIT MMEEEEEEEEEEEE! of Scream. It also had a killer klown. Gotta love any movie with a gen-ew-wine killer klown.

Hell. I'm looking forward to Jeepers Creepers 2.
When I saw the first one I thought, wow, someone made a real straight forward horror movie for a change. The bad guy even won. Everyone else thought it sucked.

I hated 'House of 1000 corpses'. I prefer a psycho-killer movie where the victims at least at least make SOME attempt to fight back or get away. 'House of 1000' corpses was just two hours of these kids being tortured by these psychotic hillbillies. It got old after a while.

On the other hand the four kids in question were so annoying that as each one was offed, the movie got 25% better.

I am officially making the following prediction about this movie:

The trailer is going to be awesome. The movie is going to suck.

I've seen trailers for it on TV.... They follow a 'boxing' theme...

"In this corner, with over 1200 kills, hailing from Crystal lake, is Jason."

"And in this corner, with over 1300kills, hailing from Death Valley, is Freddy."

Its set for release in August of next year. It supposedly takes place in Antartica.

On the website they include photos of one of their promotions. A weigh in at Las Vegas.

Ok, I'm rooting for Freddy, though I expect the film to end in some kind of tie/fight unfinnished/unkown result.

Last I read (don't ask) they promised a definitive winner.

Definately the kind of movie to catch when it comes out on cable (whether it's godawful or merely bad). No way I'm going to a theater for it.

Is this trip really necessary? What could be the motive behind this drek (other then the obvious $$$)? What's going to be next? Luke vs. Alien?
It is simply escapist fun that explores those conversations kids' have like "Who could kick whose butt? Jason or Freddie?". Not my sort of thing, admittedly, but for some a lot of fun. Heck, my husband and son are both quite looking forward to this movie.

Sweet. All the best horror movies take place in the arctic. At least "The Thing From Another World" and it's remake "The Thing", and those are the 2 best horror movies (cue comic book guy voice) EVER!
