A slight correction -
The two Saturday events are at the ACC's Riverside Campus, 1020 Grove Blvd (near Grove and East Riverside Drive). Grove is about a mile east of Pleasant Valley Road. Here's the Austin Chronicle's blurb: MAGICIAN JAMY IAN SWISS The Center for Inquiry Austin brings the internationally renowned magician to town today for two special shows. Magic for Skeptics: In this afternoon workshop, Swiss and "professional skeptic" D.J. Grothe demonstrate the secrets behind what appear to be four kinds of paranormal events (telepathy, precognition, clairvoyance, and psychokinesis), and they examine the similarities between skepticism and the practice of magic. Call to register. 1-5pm. Tonight, Swiss presents Heavy Mental, in which he'll "read minds" through what he calls "sleight of mind," a combination of psychology, influence, illusion, intuition, and deception. 8pm. Both events: $45 ($20, students & faculty). Heavy Mental: $15 ($10, students & faculty). Sat., May 19. ACC Riverside, 1020 Grove, 293-4808. www dot centerforinquiry dot net |
