Just a *cool* update on the new Skeptic track at Dragon*Con 2007. As some of you probably read before, there will be a track of Skeptic content at Dragon*Con this year. For those that don't know what Dragon*Con is... it is a 'culture convention'. It is ENTIRELY run by volunteers, and the con chooses a charity each year to contribute money to. This year they have a couple, Diabetes Research and MS. The content of the con is pretty much EVERYTHING. Most people think it is just a Sci-Fi/Fantasy con, but that is entirely untrue. Dragon*Con has everything from the Sci-Fi/Fantasy to Music, Computers, Space and Science, Movie Production, Writing Workshops, etc, etc... last year it beat out what WAS the all time leader, San Diego Comic Con in attendance. This year, just in pre-sales alone, they have ALREADY beat the number total sold last year. And, we still have 3 months left, and on top of that, they usually gain another 10-20% at the door for people that register who didn't have the forethought to get a ticket before the convention hit. So, Dragon*Con having a whole set of Skeptic stuff in itself is AMAZING, there will be tons of people who, this might be thier first time getting to know of, and seeing bunches of people who are skeptics and then gain knowlege about us and how we think. We have done about 1-2 panels of skeptic content for the past 4 years with great success, last year we hosted a whole 2 hour event just telling people WHAT Skeptic thought was all about, that panel had myself, Swoopy, Frasier Cain, Phil Plait, and George Hrab on it, it was great to see that we filled the room with some people having to stand due to the volume of people in the room.
At this time we might have Jeff Wagg and a couple JREF folks come for only the first day or two before the head off to the Cruise... But, all in all... the content of this 4 day event is coming together and should be a great time for all. If you want more information on Dragon*Con go to http://www.dragoncon.org/ or http://www.dragon-pod.com/ for details on hotels, dates and all things Dragon*Con. Hope to see you all there, and please don't hesitate to e-mail me if you have any questions or need more specific information. BTW: I am one of the Directors at the con, I mainly run the Podcasting Track, and have been 'co directing' on the Skeptic track with Dru and Lorraine.

My goodness! They're expecting more attendees than last year?! How much more stuffing can those hotels take?!

Well WowBagger... that is why they have THREE hotels full this year, not just the 1 and two thirds like they did last year. Also, they have a couple 'extra' meeting spaces within walking distance if they need them.
Also, Jeff Wagg just confirmed he is COMING for some stuff at the con as well!
