card magic book in auction
Check out the "Royal Road to Card Magic" in the auction section. Brown says Randi himself reccomended it to him!

Most magicians I've seen have reccomended The Royal Road to Card Magic as one of the best introductions.
Then you graduate to Expert Card Technique, which covers some of the same ground, but focuses more on flourishes. For coin magic it's always Modern Coin Magic by Bobo. Those are the three I see reccomended most often. I think instructional DVDs serve as better guide though. They're more expensive, but a well done DVD easily trumps those 50s illustrations. Besides, reading sucks. |

Royal Road and Expert Card Technique have been great books for a long time. They still are- especially if you have a very limited budget. But if you're serious and can afford it I'd recommended the Card College series (5 books)- Much more up to date and easier to read.
