Talking Think of a number....

Think of a number ... 1 to 9 ... don't tell me, don't tell me...

First multiply that number by 9

Got an answer? Yet?

Now add the digits of your answer e.g. for 34, 3+4 =7

Now subtract 5 from your answer

Now convert your new answer to a letter of the alphabet {a=1, b=2 etc...)

Now think of a country beginning with your letter...

Now move to the 2nd letter of that country... and think of an mammal that starts with that letter....

Now think of the colour of the animal you chose....

Is it a.....

Griff... not magic really...I wish!

I got Dominican Republic (I wanted to pick Djibouti but thought that might screw you up).

My animal is an elk (although I thought of emu first and I wasn't sure an eel would count as an animal).

By 'along these lines' do you mean totally impromptu and not requiring any props at all? Or do you mean math tricks combined with psychological non-sure-fire choices? Or just tricks that will work most of the time but not all the time?

Usually if you ask a person to think of a number less than 100 with two odd digits that are not the same...they usually think of...

I've tried this one several times and it's never worked. Not once. Mayhap I'm not cut out for mentalism.

Strange but true: in response to "think of a number", myself and a friend both thought of 2.506 and we both had mathematical, but unrelated, reasons for choosing that number.
