Sylvia's medical diagnosis turns out to be right? What do you make of it?

So these two sisters, Brandy and Alicia, appeared on Montel on an episode that aired in March 2006 for an explanation of a paranormal experience and for a medical diagnosis.

They came back in 2007 to confirm what Sylvia had told them allthough to me, it sounds as if she told them absolutely nothing of any help whatsoever. Please feel free to pick it apart to threads.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

My next guests are sisters who were on this show last year, and they were anxious to find out some answers from Sylvia. Take a look at this.

BEGIN VIDEO CLIP

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

It all started when we had moved into my parents' friend's house.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

Shortly after we had moved in, we started having very strange occurrences.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

I've had three miscarriages, and the only thing that they all have in common is him. I found out I was pregnant. It must have been about 11:00 at night, and the man in black was standing in my doorway. I closed my eyes, and he was gone. The next day, I lost my child.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

Why is my sister having these miscarriages after every single time she sees this man dressed in black?

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

His name is Aaron, so I would look up anyone that lived on that property by the name of Aaron Coldwell.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

Summer of 2003, I was diagnosed as having lupus. Recently, I got back to the States, and I was told that I did not have lupus at all. And I was just wondering if maybe that--if I do have lupus, or what's wrong with me or...

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

You don't have lupus. You don't--it's your thyroid.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

My thyroid?

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

I was diagnosed, as well, in 2001, when I was 15. Do I?

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

No, no. I don't know who you're going to, but you ought to go to a real good endocrinologist.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

Am I gonna be able to have more children?

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

Yeah, you're gonna have a boy. But you know you have a tipped uterus, too, which makes it even...

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

No, I didn't know that.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

Yeah, which makes it even harder.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

So we shouldn't be afraid about the illness that they've...

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

No.

END VIDEO CLIP

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

Please welcome Alicia and Brandy back to the show. Welcome them. Thank you, guys. Brandy, what happened after the show?

APPLAUSE

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

I did happen to go see an OB-GYN, and I do have a tipped uterus.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

Duh.

LAUGHTER

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

And let's back up, though, and let's talk about this whole business with lupus.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

Okay, I was retested two times. I do not have lupus.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

I know you didn't.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

And because I was on medication for three years for a disease I do not have, I now have severe osteoporosis and arthritis due to that. I'm taking medication for that now.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

Right, yeah.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

You also were diagnosed, right?

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

Yes, I was. Shortly after she said that I also did not have lupus, I quit taking my meds. I talked to my doctor, and he said that as long as I didn't have any rehabilitation effects, I would be fine to stop.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

To stay off? But now, you should go back in and get retested one more time just like your sister did.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

I also did.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

And what did they say?

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

Here--well, here recently, I've been having bad, bad sickness...

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

Mm-hmm.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

...going on with me. I wasn't able to eat for three weeks. It was horrible. I lost a severe amount of weight, and it's still continuing.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

They're thinking it's Crohn's.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

They're thinking it's Crohn's.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

Yeah, it's not. It's not lupus.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

Well, that's what's so strange about it.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

No, you really have IBS.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

Irritable bowel. Is that right?

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

Irritable bowel syndrome.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

How do I go about handling that?

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

Go to a regular internist.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

Okay. They're wanting to send me back to my endocrinologist, and they said that on top of that, they said that it would be best for me not to have children. Will you please go to an internist? I don't know. Really, I don't mean to be mean. I don't know who both of you are going to, but whoever it is...

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

Okay.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

Well, I am seeing an endocrinologist now, and I'm just wondering when my son will be here.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

In about--including pregnancy time, about a year and a half.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

Okay.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

Will I be able to...

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

Oh, yes. You'll have a girl.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

I told my husband I was gonna have a girl, 'cause I dreamed I was gonna have a little girl, picked out her name and everything. And I told my husband I was gonna have a little girl.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

You will.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

What did you guys find out about the name...

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

About Aaron?

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

Yes.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

We actually...

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

Yeah, both of us did a lot of research on it.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

The only thing as far as I could get from it was he was born in the 1890s and died in the 1940s.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

But there was a person named Aaron?

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

Yes, there was.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

Yes, I found out that he was from Oklahoma. I don't know if that's right or not.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

It is.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

He was from Oklahoma?

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

Yeah, I mean, how many people have that name running around in your house?

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

Okay, 'cause I was wondering if we were on the right track, 'cause we did our own separate research.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

Exactly.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

Wait a minute, if the research came back and verified then...

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

I think I'd leave it alone then, don't you think?

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

Yes.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

Just let it go.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

I mean, if it was Joe Smith, maybe it could be anybody, but not with that name.

BRANDY, FORMER GUEST ON A SYLVIA SHOW LAST YEAR

Yes, we've had a lot of fun with him.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

So go back and see another doctor, get again one more opinion. It seems to be validating, so go back and get one more.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

Okay, so I should go ahead, go back to see my rheumatologist, have him run more blood work and everything.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

And please go to an internist and find out about IBS.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

Okay.

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

See, this cramping, stomach, all this, being sick. If anybody in this audience has IBS, they'll tell you how much pain they can be in and how much they don't wanna eat.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

A whole bunch of faces going like this.

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

When will I be able to...

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

Yeah, there's a whole bunch of people back there going...

ALICIA, SAYS SYLVIA WAS RIGHT WHEN SHE TOLD HER SHE DIDN'T HAVE LUPUS

When will I be able to actually eat a full meal? I haven't been able to actually eat a full meal in a month.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

There's medication for it, right?

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

Oh, yeah, there is. Absolutely.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

There's medications. Have the doctor get you on a regiment that will get you...

SYLVIA BROWNE, BEST SELLING AUTHOR AND WORLD RENOWNED PSYCHIC

And it doesn't eat your bones up and all that.

MONTEL WILLIAMS, HOST

I got to go to a break. Yes, ma'am, you had a question.

...

And the original appearance:

http://web.lexis-nexis.com.proxy.wex...33dbd17faf24e1

...

WILLIAMS: Well, look, my first guests say that they've been haunted by the same mysterious man in their lives for--for a long time. Take a look at this.

(Excerpt from videotape)

BRANDY (Wants to Know if There is a Reason Why She Keeps Miscarrying): It had all started--we had moved into my parents' friends' house.

ALICIA: Shortly after we had moved in, we started having very strange occurrences. There was one instance where my brother woke up, and he saw a man that was dressed in white. He asked the man, because he was going in for his surgery, and the man looked at him, and he said, `It's OK, everything's going to be OK.'

My sister woke up one night, she felt things crawling on her.

BRANDY: There was a man, dressed in black, wearing a black hat, black suitcase.

ALICIA: We would see him staring at us, standing in the hall, through the corner of our eyes. By the time we looked at him, he would be gone.

BRANDY: I had not seen him again until I was 21. I found out I was pregnant, and my husband was at work. And I decided to go to bed. It must have been about 11:00 at night, and the man in black was standing in my doorway. I closed my eyes, and he was gone. The next day, I lost my child. In March of 2002, I got pregnant for a second time. The man in black was standing in the kitchen. Three days later, I had another miscarriage. The very last time I saw him was March of 2005. I again was pregnant, walked upstairs, he was standing next to my bed, and that Friday I found out my baby had died.

ALICIA: Why is my sister having these miscarriages after every single time she sees this man dressed in black?

BRANDY: I've had three miscarriages, and the only thing that they all have in common is him. I would just like to know who he is, what he wants. Because it seems like every time that I see him, something bad happens.

(End of excerpt)

WILLIAMS: Please welcome Alicia and Brandy to the show. Alicia, why don't you ask Sylvia? What did you want to ask her?

ALICIA: I want to know why these things are happening to her, and who is this man that's been following her?

Ms. BROWNE: His name is Aron. You know, like Aron of the Bible?

ALICIA: Yes.

Ms. BROWNE: He's not the one that creates the miscarriage. I mean, I don't want to get personal, but I had four miscarriages before my first son and three before my second son. So he's not the portent of--he's actually there, strangely enough, to try to give you some kind of solace, do you see what I mean, because he knows what's happening. He's not a spirit guide, though, he comes with the house. So I would look up anyone that lived on that property by the name of Aron Coldwell. You know, like Coldwell Banker? But Coldwell. I--you can't believe when I'm on this show...

WILLIAMS: Why are you shaking your head, Alicia?

ALICIA: That--because that--that last name sounds familiar. It does. I've done research on that house before.

Ms. BROWNE: It was a Coldwell family.

ALICIA: Yes. I've done research on that house before and the family that lived there before.

Ms. BROWNE: Was named Coldwell.

ALICIA: Yeah.

WILLIAMS: So check to see if one of them--what's the first name?

Ms. BROWNE: Aron.

ALICIA: Aron.

WILLIAMS: Aron. So--but what you're saying is he--so the man's not appearing and--and causing your miscarriage. He's probably coming to let you...

BRANDY: That was going to be one of my questions.

Ms. BROWNE: But, honey, I swear to you, I've been in this business--I'll be 70 years old in October, I've been in this business 51 years, I mean professionally. I have never seen a ghost hurt anybody. I don't care what people say. You know Hollywood, throw you down the stairs, cut your throat, throw you over the--forget it.

BRANDY: OK. Well, in the summer of 2003, I was diagnosed as having lupus. Recently, I got back to the States, and I was told that I did not have lupus at all. And I was just wondering if maybe that--if I do have lupus, or what's wrong with me.

Ms. BROWNE: You don't have lupus. You don't have lupus.

BRANDY: What's causing the miscarriages?

Ms. BROWNE: No, it's your thyroid.

BRANDY: My thyroid?

ALICIA: I was diagnosed as well in 2001, when I was 15. Do I?

Ms. BROWNE: No, no. I don't know who you're going to, but you ought to go to a real good endocrinologist.

BRANDY: Am I going to be able to have more children?

Ms. BROWNE: Yeah, you're going to have a boy.

ALICIA: So we--so we shouldn't be afraid.

Ms. BROWNE: But you know you have a tipped uterus, too, which makes it...

BRANDY: No, I didn't know that.

Ms. BROWNE: Yeah. Which makes it even harder.

ALICIA: So we shouldn't be afraid about the illness that they've...

Ms. BROWNE: No.

ALICIA: I--I have one more quick question, if it's OK. I've had dreams ever since I was a young girl of things.

Ms. BROWNE: Little.

ALICIA: Wondering why--why do I have these dreams? And later on in the future, most of them happen.

Ms. BROWNE: It's precognitive. In other words, it is a psychic sense. See, I'm not psychic in my dreams, but I am in the daytime. But there's a lot of people that are psychic in their dreams, because it's easier to, you know, it's more--easier swallow in your dreams than it is in the day.

WILLIAMS: The question was, are you a little psychic? The answer is what?

Ms. BROWNE: Yes.

ALICIA: Do I have special ability?

Ms. BROWNE: Oh, yeah, or else you wouldn't be able to prove it to yourself.

ALICIA: OK. Thank you.

WILLIAMS: I got to take a little break. Going to break, you had a question for Sylvia, did you not?

I find following these transcripts difficult, but two inaccuracies immediately stood out:

1) Crohn's disease is most definitely NOT irritable bowel syndrome. It is part of a group of very serious disorders known as inflammatory bowel disease. Ulcerative colitis is another that you may have heard of in this family.

2) A "tipped" uterus is common and in and of itself does not affect fertility.

Yes, this has been brought to my attention before. And I believe the video of the second appearance can be found on ouTube.

Offhand, without seeing their medical records, it would be difficult to judge.

If I recall, I think that a fairly high perecntage of women have a tipped uterus (something like one in five). I would be curious to find out how high that percentage is among women who are having difficulty conceiving, or in carrying a child to term.

Regardless of all of that, there is also the "even a stopped clock is right twice a day" scenario.

She gives readings to what, hundreds of people on Montel every year.

And how many does he bring back to validate their reading? Two?

Having a mother in law with lupus, and someone who has been screened for it myself, I have to wonder about false diagnosis on this. I mean, it happens, obviously, but this raises my alarm somewhat.

I'd be more interested in seeing their medical records where the diagnosis is made initially than any paper saying they don't have lupus. I would not put it past Sylvia to have phonies in the audience. Of course I have no evidence, so it's merely speculation. Or grounds to be said that I am also a slanderer of Sylvia Browne

Maybe she's really psychic after all.

Sylvia didn't say it wasn't lupus until after Brandy said she was told she didn't have lupus. She did say it was her thyroid, which apparently it wasn't. How was she right again?

Read the first appearance (the one which EMM quoted last).

Here is the quote, from the first appearance:

Hi Rob,

I agree with tsg. Look at the part I've bolded. Brandy had already been told she didn't have lupus before the first appearance. Sylvia simply agreed with the doctor.

Oh sure, if you read all the words.

Thanks.

I am not convinced. Sounds like typical Sylvia medical babbling. She constantly tells people they have a thyroid problem or IBS.

All can be cured with lecithin*, of course.

Hey, I never said Sylvia Browne was right about anything! That is the one thing you cannot accuse me of!

Brandy, Alicia and Montel did! And I'm posting it here so it can be picked apart.

The one thing that stands out to me is that Alicia is still sick! Here it is:

ALICIA,

Here--well, here recently, I've been having bad, bad sickness...

MONTEL WILLIAMS

Mm-hmm.

ALICIA,

...going on with me. I wasn't able to eat for three weeks. It was horrible. I lost a severe amount of weight, and it's still continuing.

And how are the effects of Irritable Bowel Syndrome similar to Crohn's Disease?! Could someone with the symptoms of Crohn's really have IBS?

Montel seems to be doing everything he can to prevent himself from getting sued up the creek, the way he keeps jumping in.

God, what is it with videos that keep surfacing on Youtube to support transcripts on the forum?! This is about the fourth time I've had to resurrect a dead thread because the video showed up on You Tube.
