Drug Czar: Marijuana Growers are Terrorists!

http://www.redding.com/news/2007/jul...gives-warning/

Quote:
The nation's top anti-drug official said people need to overcome their "reefer blindness" and see that illicit marijuana gardens are a terrorist threat to the public's health and safety, as well as to the environment.

John P. Walters, President Bush's drug czar, said the people who plant and tend the gardens are terrorists who wouldn't hesitate to help other terrorists get into the country with the aim of causing mass casualties. Walters made the comments at a Thursday press conference that provided an update on the "Operation Alesia" marijuana-eradication effort.

"Don't buy drugs. They fund violence and terror," he said.
Using Blackhawk helicopters, Julius Caesar will put down those pothead Gauls once and for all.

The sheer nerve of this statement. I wonder if the guy actually believes this?!?! I guess there's a 50/50 chance he does. Either he's a loony zealot, or he's offering up the very worst type of propaganda.

Growing a product that increases cravings for Funyuns is supporting terror, eh?

From that article:

With the blitz of marijuana gardens around Shasta County, Bosenko said officials hope to not only get rid of the pot, but also ...

...hope to get blitzed?

The hypocrisy is striking. It's only because people like him have driven marijuana underground that it has developed criminal connections.

The terrorists card is being played for just about everything. Here we are being told not to buy pirate CD's or DVD's as profits go to funding terrorists.

There's some very selective quoting going on there. From other reports, it looks like he may have been talking about Mexican criminal gangs, but I can't find a full transcription of the press conference anyway.

Just because he's wrong doesn't mean his opponents are reporting the facts straight.

So patriots should only download pirated softaware, music and such from free souces? I can support that.

We have this guy - who exemplifies the calibre of thinking which pervades the Bush administration. We have a President who took us into an undeclared, unneccessary and apparently endless war against a nation who had neither harmed us and couldn't if they wanted to and has been given powers over all of us that are unprecedented and on and on - and we are supposed to take seriously the notion that we have be afraid of the far out, whacky ass ideas of a guy like Ron Paul. It's as though some people simply have no perspective.

Because the cure for idiocy is even more extreme idiocy! Abolish the Fed and income taxes and go to the gold standard, and watch the fun ensue!

Depends on whether you have to smell the Funyun-consumer's breath.

Welcome to George W. Bush's America. We only have the conservatives of this country to thank for this culture of police state rhetoric.

To be fair, using the word terrorist may be a Bushism, but plenty of crazy stuff like this regarding marijuana has been going on for a while. Whatever justifies their goals, they'll say it:

Quote:
When Montana outlawed marijuana in 1927, the Butte Montana Standard reported a legislator's comment: "When some beet field peon takes a few traces of this stuff... he thinks he has just been elected president of Mexico, so he starts out to execute all his political enemies."
And from H. Anslinger in the 1930's, the precursor to the "drug czar"

Quote:
"There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others."

"...the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races."

"Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death."

"Reefer makes darkies think they're as good as white men."

"Marihuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing"

"You smoke a joint and you're likely to kill your brother."

"Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind."
I'm not defending Bush here, just pointing out that dishonest hyperbole has been put out well over 80 years in the US.

Thank you, I'm well aware of Anslinger. He was white trash before white trash was white trash.

Buy American. Stop smoking dope, use Crystal Meth. Be patriotic. Drink Shiner Bock, Bud, Sam Adams, Anchor Steam. Leave the Corona, the Moosehead, on the shelf.

OK, for a treat, you can have a Guinness.

But buy American, and look for the Union label.

If we did a body count id guess alcohol and tobacco each would beat weed by far, and even beat all narcotics put together.

Terrorism is just the new communism. It's a word that's trown out to demonize something when logic would be too hard/impossible to use. No rational basis to ban marijuana? Claim it funds terrorism. No rational basis to invade Grenada? Call them communists. Same [rule8] thing. As soon as someone wants to refute your stupid idea with logic all one has to say is "so you support the terrorists/comminists?" and watch the backpedaling begin. Dishonest rhetoric at its worst.

I agree with the above statement, except he should have included "Jews."
