Host of the Living Dead

I was flipping through the news channels tonight when I did a double take.

I flipped back to CNN.

Larry King was on, split screen, with a zombie on the other screen. It looked like a talking mummy, with hell inspired face paint. The caption took a moment for me to register.

Tammy Faye Mesner.

She looked like a corpse in a coffin whose lips were being made to move. Larry King looked like his usual slick, overproduced zombie self.

I don't think the term "tasteless" has ever been better illustrated.

I have three questions:

1. What is the appeal of Larry King? I've never understood what makes his arse kissing "interview" style a money maker.

2. What sick producer decided to upset America's stomachs tonight by showing an animated corpse on TV? That was once a woman.

3. Why did I click back for another back? Fascination with the macabre seems to be a natural human reaction, or, maybe I'm infected by overexposure to 24/7 idomediacy.

For christ's sakes, better not show Oliver this. It'll only confirm his prejudices.
________

Having never watched Larry King in my life, I have no idea to contribute.

Wasn't Tammy Faye the wife of some preacher knocked into jail?

Yes, before she caught a nasty wasting disease and shriveled up into a terribly sad, wasted, earthly frame.

Hope it isn't contagious.

Ah. I looked her up on Wikipedia.

OK. I apologise for my comments, that is I apologise for maybe making light of her; fine, she may well be known for wearing far too much make-up, but she is apparently suffering from colon cancer which has now developed into lots of secondaries, including lung cancer.

She is most certainly not my cup of tea in any way at all, but she's dying, and it's not my place to dump on her.

There but for the grace of God / randomness go I, sort of.

OTOH, I can dump on Larry King. Truly ghastly show, from what I read about it.

It's funny, I was thinking the same thing the other day when I happened to catch a bit of King. He's unbearable. How people can watch that show for two full hours is beyond me, I don't care who he's interviewing.

I was just going to mention that. She always had a ghastly appearance, but she's dying, and I think it's pretty crappy to dump on her for how she looks today.

As far as Larry King goes, one word - softball. People who appear on the show know he doesn't ask hard questions and people watching his show like watching psychics, celebs and pseudocelebs blathering non-answers to non-questions.
