This is too general. Houdini used many methods, anything including bribery would work. Many magicians know how Houdini did his stuff, but maybe no one knows how everything was done, as sometimes it was impromptu.

I just finished reading Houdini bio. Review here... http://forums.randi.org/showthread.php?t=90682

I visited the Houdini museum a couple years ago when I was in that area. It's an interesting place and worth a trip if you're anywhere near there.

His methods are known. Not all magicians know them. Not all magicians care to know them unless they are into performing escapes. Many methods are no longer relevant to the locks used today.

Steven Wright joked about having a picture of Houdini locking his keys inside his car.
