Hey, this can't be safe, can it?

This just sounds to me like asking for trouble.

Can't make you any more vulnerable than you already are..

Stuff like this i.e. PC-Anywhere, has been around for a long time...

It looks similar to other VPN type software, like:

VNC

http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/

or PC Anywhere

http://www.symantec.com/pcanywhere/

Yes, anytime you open another route to get at your hard drive you're adding a security risk but if you take the time and trouble to properly set-up firewalls, and solid password protection, you can manage reasonable risk for convenience levels.

I use an FTP server for access to my PC at home from work, and while it's certainly more risky than turning the thing off, as long as no one has reason to believe I have anything super valuable sitting on it, most bad people would just move on to the next available port on the net rather than trying to fancy schmancy their way into mine.

It's like having a club on your car. It's not foolproof but it's a deterent. And using this software is like having a window open just a crack for air....decide how risky that is for you.
