Photoshop qualifies as an art tool...I think...
Have a gift certificate to amazon.com burning a hole in my cyber-pocket...
Looking for recommendations on a beginner's book on how to use Photoshop 7. Surprisingly enough, Photoshop 7 for Dummies has some negative reviews on amazon's site. I have Photoshop 7, and $25 in the amazon account. Suggestions, anyone and everyone? And if you would, spread the word on other forums of this request. Thanks in advance. |

Try this out. It is made by Adobe and comes included with a CD. You might have a tendency to mimic the photos featured in the book, don’t. Follow the instructions, step-by-step. The knowledge in the book is fundamental, but valuable none-the less. Once you master the fundamentals there are several websites with photoshop tutorials where you can learn to do some really cool *****.

I have seen some remarkable works done with photoshop and related programs such as "paint".
I downloaded the free program GIMP, which has much of the functionality of Photoshop, but I found it very difficult to use; very counterintuitive. No doubt if you had a great deal of time to play with it it'd be fine. To me, attempting to do any sort of art with the computer brings out the shortcomings of the interface; the mouse just don't cut it. Graphics tablets offer the ability to use conventional drawing and painting techniques, but they are expensive; the cheapest is over 100.00, while the high-end numbers are many times that. |

I have a dvd on drawing in the Manga style. it is 3hrs +, and the entire process takes place in photoshop.
The image used in the demonstration is also the cover for the case: ![]() I have a few problems with it, sometimes it is not clear what the person is doing, and it gets boring watching for the entire time. But it is interesting and informative I think. |

Once you've gotten comfortable with Photoshop and you want to do a bit more than touch up red eye, check out any book by Scott Kelby. I've been to two fof his seminars and have one of his books. He is so informative and entertaining—definitely well worth the read.
