Religion's "The End of World"
Do the stories of "The End Times" in various religions form a symbolic representation of the religion fearing its own end?

Ask a Jehovah Witness. Making predictions that don't come true doesn't seem to hurt them.

But does the fear of the "End" being "Soon" not drive the need to keep the dream alive drive for those to recruit others more fervently?

I hope so. I has for some cults (Waco... The Peoples' Temple)--
But I think history shows that these sort of predictions occur regularly. One day people may correctly assess all the multitude of failures of such predictions of history past and realize that gurus don't have an idea what they are talking about. Or, it could become a self fulfilling prophesy. |
